Tourism in Weston-super-Mare
Tourism is not only important to Weston-super-Mare but the whole of North Somerset. We need to attract money into our local economy, to support businesses and employment, which in turn benefits communities. Working with local businesses and understanding tourism needs is an essential part of the process, if we want to attract more visitors.
However it is impossible for the Council to do this on their own. The Tourism and Leisure Conference organised by North Somerset District Council works hard to not only offer support but also to allow networking and communication between parties that have an interest in tourism. I am very pleased that this important initiative is part of the Council’s regular agenda, and I would like to see it grow even further in the future, gaining in stature and influence.
We must not forget that the popularity of British seaside breaks are increasing, and we need to make sure we attract our share, and do everything to maximise tourism spending through encouraging private investment with public support. There have been a number of notable successes in this area last year such as Weston Airday and Dismaland but we need to keep the momentum going.
